Yamabiko Europe is part of the Japanese Yamabiko and has two business activities: Outdoor Power Equipment, and Robotic mowers and golf ball pickers. The company is the world leader in commercial, automatic lawn mowers for large areas up to 75,000 m2. In Europe, these lawn mowers are used to maintain sports facilities, private gardens and large open spaces around offices, hospitals, military bases, high-voltage stations, etc. For the latest automatic lawn mower, Yamabiko Europe was looking for a manufacturer and found up with Promatrix.
“We were looking for a company that could make aluminum injection molding tools and supply plastic parts for our new robots,” says Pascal Keirle, head of purchasing at Yamabiko Europe. “Our regular injection molding manufacturer was unable to supply the parts for our new mower because these parts are too large for its injection molding machines. They gave me the name of Promatrix.”
Low investment costs
“We only produce small series of mowers, usually a few hundred units. It is not compatible with regular injection molding. We were therefore looking for a company that makes aluminum moulds. This allowed us to keep our investment costs low, as aluminum is cheaper than steel.”
Processing our product requirements
“The process started with discussing our product requirements. Promatrix makes four different parts for the lawn mower, all of which are incorporated on the inside. The electronics of the lawn mower are located on both the front and the back of the robot. We were looking for a manufacturer for two plastic containers that contain the electronics. One of our requirements was that there must be a lid on the container that closes it very accurately. This prevents the electronics from getting wet. Promatrix is used to incorporating all kinds of wishes into a product, so this was no problem.”
