Assembly is the bringing together of multiple parts to create one whole. This also includes the subsequent processing of a product that we have produced. The desired processing cannot always be processed directly in the production process. For example, drilling holes in exactly the right place or gluing different parts. Teamlead Internal Logistics, Matthijs Bijdevaate, explains a selection of the possibilities.
“We like to think along with our customers about their wishes and the possibilities therein. In order to arrive at the right end result, we offer various types of assembly. For a customer in the camera and monitoring systems sector, we bring various components together via heat staking. This is a technique that connects multiple plastic molded products through heat. With heat staking, we use local heating and cooling to increase the temperature of plastic components and fuse them together. Advantages of this technique include; no vibration damage, no particles and the possibility to stake in hard-to-reach or limited areas.”
Very accurate
“Another example of assembly is drilling holes in exactly the desired place. For our customer Holmatro, manufacturer of rescue equipment, we make handles with lighting. We provide the holes for the lighting. This is a very precise job, because there should be no slack in the space for the LED lighting. In order to be able to do this so precisely, we have molds in which we place each handle. In the mold, the handle is firmly in place and the places where we have to drill are precisely marked. In this way, we guarantee that the customer gets exactly what they want.”
Ready-made parts
“Gluing different parts together is also one of the possibilities we offer. For truck trailer manufacturer Kraker Trailers, we glue two parts that we produce ourselves to a plate that we purchase especially for them. This gives them a ready-made part that they can add directly to their trailers.”
Packaging requirements
“Another part that does not belong to assembling products, but where we certainly also take into account the wishes of our customers, is the packaging of products. For one customer, products can be automatically placed from the conveyor belt into a large box. For another customer, we count the number of products per packaging unit down to the last detail. For products that are visible parts or scratch easily, it is important that they are packaged individually. The way in which we package the products is therefore an important part of processing the wishes of customers.”
Wide range of possibilities
“The great thing about offering a wide range of assembly options is to see how we can relieve our customers of their worries. Not every desired adjustment of a product can be solved directly in production. How great is it that we can still make these customer wishes a reality with our assembly team.”
